FireCalc Released - AutoCAD .dxf to HASS .sdf

In an effort to save time and minimize input errors in the Fire Sprinkler calculation program, HASS, GeniuSoft has created software to import a DXF file from AutoCAD and save it in the native HASS format (SDF).

This program (FireCalc) makes input quick and easy by automatically setting pipe Size and Type, based on what layer the DXF lines are drawn on. So a line drawn on the layer "FP-MAIN" will automatically be set to be the Size and Type for a MAIN.

Always Left-Justify Text in an MLEADER

MLEADER switches the text justification to the right when the leader is on the right side of the text. Then I found this checkbox in the Modify Multileader Style dialog box...

Linking Excel Spreadsheets to AutoCAD Tables (AutoCAD 2008+)

You may have heard about how you can link Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to a table in AutoCAD 2008 and have them stay in sync with each other. It is easy to do but it's not as straight-forward as you might imagine. Here is how to do it in a few easy steps.

Writing Scripts

One of my favorite things about using AutoCAD is the ability to write and run scripts to help me do repetitive tasks quickly. A script is a series of commands (just like you type into the command line) that you can save in a text file and run on any drawing whenever you need it. Since it is saved in a text file, you can easily share it with colleagues who might need to use it. I have a library of scripts for repetitive tasks we do at work on a regular basis. Here is how to get started writing a script.
