I recently came across a thread on our discussion forums that was asking about customizing the Rise/Drop symbols that are shown when a Pipe or Duct has a vertical segment relative to the plane of the view in Revit, see below. We currently provide the user the ability to choose from a number of different symbols that display these situations. These symbols came from some generally accepted methods for displaying these situations. We do this for a reason, and it had to do with Revit MEP being a design tool and not a drafting tool. So, I set off to write a post explaining this point. When I was done, I realized that I had gone into a lot more depth on the purpose of the product (big surprise knowing me), and that it might be useful for you in my blog audience. read more...

Improvements made in the Web Update #3 build (20071109_2345):  Consistent Electrical Fixture insertion behavior after creating Electrical Fixture schedules.  Improves performance when placing Callouts on MEP models in certain situations.  Allows the ability to array face-based families placed on a vertical face.  Allows the ability to maintain face-based instances on curved surfaces of a Revit link when the link is unloaded.  Improves stability when selecting Sections.  Allows the ability to insert an electrical receptacle into a legend view.  Improves stability when accessing the Help menu in Revit MEP on a computer with the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.  Improves stability when applying a view template to a sheet.  Improves performance when views contain many objects with overridden graphics by element. read more...

But, when you introduce the data that needs to flow between Connectors, the need to establish rules for flow, and the association between the Connector and the Family itself; things get interesting. read more...

When Building Services are designed, they serve an important purpose for the building. Individual pieces work together as a system to meet the demands of the building. As a BIM tool, I need to understand what’s going on in the Revit MEP model, so like to set things up so they are visually represent what’s going on. There’s a couple of ways that I do this; View Filters and Color Fills. I’ll cover Color Fills in a later post, but today let’s go over View Filters. read more...
